Kurt Cobain documentary on HBO

Kurt Cobain, legendary lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of Nirvana, "the flagship band of Generation X," remains an object of reverence and fascination for music fans around the world. For the first time, his story will be told in KURT COBAIN: MONTAGE OF HECK, a fully-authorized feature documentary from co-producers HBO Documentary Films and Universal Pictures International Entertainment Content Group. Slated for international release in 2015, the film will debut exclusively on HBO in the U.S.Brett Morgen, the Oscar®-nominated filmmaker behind acclaimed documentaries such as the HBO presentations "Crossfire Hurricane," which celebrated the 50th anniversary of The Rolling Stones, and "The Kid Stays in the Picture," is writer, director and producer of KURT COBAIN: MONTAGE OF HECK. Visual artist Frances Bean Cobain, Cobain's daughter, is executive producer. The first documentary to be made with the cooperation of Kurt Cobain's family, the film is a raw and visceral journey through Cobain's life and provides no-holds-barred access to Kurt Cobain's archives, home to his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives, family archives and songbooks. The film features dozens of Nirvana songs and performances as well as previously unheard Cobain originals."I started work on this project eight years ago," says Morgen. "Like most people, when I started, I figured there would be limited amounts of fresh material to unearth. However, once I stepped into Kurt's archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies, and over 4000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media."He adds, "I could not be happier with our partners at HBO and Universal. We look forward to sharing this film with audiences around the world."

Awesome.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Kurt Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, is not involved in the the authorized documentary on the late NIRVANA frontman that's coming next year. It was Love who initially approached filmmaker Brett Morgen in 2007 about making the project, which is called "Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck", and offered him access to Cobain's private archives.Morgen said that Love "gave me the keys to this kingdom and final cut of the film," but that he soon began collaborating directly with Cobain and Love's daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, who also inherited a vast amount of the musician's material. Morgen explained, "At a certain point, I started working more closely with (Frances). We (all) agreed that because Courtney was a subject in the film, it would be best if she wasn't given editorial control."Frances is now credited as an executive producer on the film and recently tweeted, "I'm really excited for you guys to see 'Montage Of Heck'. @brettmorgen created an intense yet wonderful examination of Kurt's life & art."Morgen also worked with Kurt's mother, Wendy Cobain, and his record label, Geffen Records, to secure rights to his music and personal materials for the film.As for Love, Morgen said, "She hasn't seen the movie. I'm not sure she's intending to." But he added, "Courtney brought me into the world, and the film would not exist if she hadn’t reached out to me.""Montage Of Heck" will debut in January at the Sundance Film Festival, followed by a premiere on HBO and possibly even a theatrical release.

According to The Pulse Of Radioimage: http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png, Brett Morgen, the director of the new Kurt Cobainimage: http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png documentary "Montage Of Heck", has revealed on Twitter that the soundtrack of the film will feature a 12-minute unreleased track from Cobain, the late NIRVANA frontman. It isn't known if the track was intended for a solo album he worked on with Pat Smear and Eric Erlandson."Do Re Mi", Cobain’s late acoustic demo, was released a decade ago."Montage Of Heck", the first documentary about Cobain made with the authorization and cooperation of his family, premiered at the Sundance Filmimage: http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png Festival in Park City, Utah on January 24. According to The Pulse Of Radio, the film was praised in several reviews, with The Wrap calling it a "bold, generous portrait of a man who was clearly a tortured teenager before he was a tortured artist and a reluctant icon," adding that parts of the two-hour-plus film were "shockingly personal." Badass Digest was more detailed in its review, noting that the film was "as much a tour of Kurt's mind as it is a retelling of his life," and revealing that it includes photos and recordings of Cobain and Courtney Loveimage: http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png having sex among its more intimate materials. The film relies less on straight documentary reporting and is constructed more like a collage of previously unseen home movies, interviews, animation, photographs and other artifacts, all accompanied by Cobain's music.

Re: Kurt Cobain documentary on HBO

According to The Pulse Of Radio, filmmaker Brett Morgen (pictured), director of the new documentary "Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck", has revealed that an album collecting previously unheard music from late NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain's personal tapes will be released this summer. Morgen told Bedford + Bowery, "We're going to be putting out an amazing album this summer," adding that the record "will feel like you’re kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about. It's going to really surprise people."Morgen told The Pulse Of Radio about the material he found while researching Cobain's archives for the film: "I knew that there was gonna be all this art, but what I didn't know was there was gonna be all this audio. I opened up a box and there were 108 tapes with over 200 hours of never-before-heard audio. And this ran the gamut from music — dozens of hours of unreleased music — to sound collage, and then there was this amazing spoken word material that I discovered."

Re: Kurt Cobain documentary on HBO

watched the documentary last night. It was better than i was expecting it to be, had scenes where kurt and Courtney are high as fuck, which was hard to watch. the early day footage was the best.
